Witchblade
This comic-book heroine was created in 1995 by Marc Silvestri, David Wohl, Brian Haberlin & Michael Turner, for Topcow productions Inc. Her first appearance was as a guest feature in Cyblade/Shi issue#1. By 1998 she had her comic-book series, which is currently published in 21 languages in over 55 countries, making it the company's best seller internationally.

Fictionally speaking, her name is Sara Pezzini, an she was born on November 18, 1970 in New York, USA, where she also works as a Homicide Detective for the Manhattan PD. She chose this occupation by following in her father's footsteps.

Her journey starts while investigating the murder of her childhood friend, where she comes in contact with an ancient gauntlet, which melds onto her wrist and protects her from harm, forever changing her destiny. This object is the Witchblade, an ancient weapon that heightens the powers of those capable of wearing it, such as their perception becoming more like clairvoyance. It also transforms into a formidable sword that is one with its wearer. With an arsenal of amazing powers - and a mind of its own - the Witchblade is both a blessing and a curse. It's wearer must learn its secrets in order to master its mystery, before it masters them.

Sara's investigative methods are sometimes unconventional. On occasion, this has brought her into conflict with her partner, Jake, and her superior, Joe Siry, with whom she shares an almost father/daughter relationship. At one time, all she needed was her gun, but now she wields the power of the Witchblade. But since bonding with this semi-sentient gauntlet, Sara's life has been enmeshed with mystery. Her possession of the Witchblade has made her a target for many people, including high-profile businessman, Kenneth Irons, who is her recurring nemesis, but occasional aid. Though he mainly seeks to influence her so as to control her actions, especially as he needs to inject her blood into him, for that gives him immortality.

Even though she is impulsive and hot-headed, Sara Pezzini has proven herself to be a reliable detective. She possesses an air of purity about her which belies a more dangerous, sensual side. Her sense of stubborn independence conflicts with a secret desire to lead a more "normal" life... something she may never know, now that she has been chosen by the Witchblade as this generation's wielder.

As for this artifact, for thousands of years the 'Witchblade' has existed. An intelligent, symbiotic weapon of incredible power. Its legacy has created a warrior bloodline back through time. But to wear the Witchblade is to be both its master and its servant, as this mysterious weapon draws to it what it needs and casts aside what it does not.

Debuting on American Tv in 2001, an based on this best-selling comic book of the same name, Witchblade also began a 45 minute drama series, starring Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini. It is co-produced by Halsted Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television, an was broadcast initially on the TNT cable channel. The series has been sold into one hundred and fifteen foreign territories and markets worldwide, an achieved audience figures above 3 million per episode in its first market. When first screened in the UK, the sci-fi channel did the honors.

New York police detective Sara Pezzini was just doing her job: saving her partner's life. Too bad in doing so she was forced to bond with the Witchblade: an ancient weapon of immense power. Now even as Sara possesses the Witchblade, the Witchblade possesses her. So she continues solving New York's strangest crimes. All of which seem to lead somehow, to the Witchblade.
