Image Comics has announced that Diamond has completely sold out
of STREET FIGHTER #1 by Ken Siu-Chong, Alvin Lee, Arnold Tsang and
Andrew Hou, two weeks prior to its in-store date of September 4.
A second printing of STREET FIGHTER #1 has already been scheduled
and will be in stores September 10. The second printing is available
for order now.
"I think it's safe to say that many retailers underestimated
the demand for the all-new STREET FIGHTER," said Image Director
of Marketing Eric Stephenson. "Since STREET FIGHTER #0 debuted
at Comic-Con International in San Diego last month, though, there's
been a huge swell of interest in this title. People want this book."
STREET FIGHTER #1 was originally solicited with three covers: Cover
A by Joe Madureira, Cover B by Arnold Tsang and Cover C by Jo Chen.
In addition to the variant covers, STREET FIGHTER #1 also includes
a bonus prequel story by fan-favorite artists Joe Madureira, perhaps
best known for his creator-owned series, BATTLE CHASERS.
"We want to make sure that everyone that wants a Street Fighter
comic book will have the opportunity to get one, and so have gone
back to print right away, in an effort to make the second printing
available as quickly as possible," said Erik Ko, Chief of Operations
of UDON.
Stephenson was also quick to point out that while STREET FIGHTER
has its roots in the '80s, it's appeal is not nostalgia based.
"I don't think there's anything 'retro' about STREET FIGHTER,
because unlike the many '80s properties that have experienced a
resurgence over the last couple years, STREET FIGHTER has remained
an ongoing concern," he said. "People are still playing
the video game and there's still an interest in the incredibly rich
world these characters exist in. This is book very firmly rooted
in the 'now.'"
STREET FIGHTER #2 also features three covers: Cover A by Arnold
Tsang, Cover B by Adam Warren and Cover C by J. Scott Campbell.
Adam Warren also contributes an action-packed backup story pitting
STREET FIGHTER's two leading ladies -- Chun-Li and Cammy -- against
one another.
